Hello everyone please accept my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong places as I'm new to using forums but I have some questions regarding the right dosage for over the counter medicines for piggies and I wondered whether anyone has a list? for example I was browsing and discovered that pain relief can be given as 0.2 ml of Calpol. I was browsing because Fluffy has a weepy eye I've bought Optrex infected eye drops but have no idea of the dose (apologies as I've asked this on a thread about eyelids). Another good one to know would be the dose for Buscopan, vit c powder, pro biotics , etc. I would always take a sick piggie to the vet but for the general bits and bobs I would love a chart to keep with my piggie medicine chest. What does everyone think would it be a good idea and can anyone start it off?
You can tell I've got young children as I'm sat at home thinking about this on New Years Eve :) Happy new year everyone.

This is a good question. There have been lots of threads about dosages of human medications, but I bet when we wanted one we would not be able to find it. Wiebke is the queen of links, she may well be able to provide a list. There are experienced people on here though that may be able to whip up a quick list for us. xx

Buscopan tablets. One tablet crushed, mixed with water about 1ml, not critical, and given by mouth. This can be repeated daily, if necessary.
Optrex, 2 drops per eye, three times daily, for seven days.
Vitamin C supplement is not needed for a pig on a balanced diet.
If necessary it should be given directly and not added to the water bottle.
It is difficult to overdose a pig with Vit C.
Probiotics, again, not normally needed unless the pig has been ill. Follow instructions on the packet, difficult to overdose.

Thanks everyone I'll start my list tonight, I thought I would put it on a small card and laminate it before putting it in with the piggie medicine chest.

Thank you Laura that information was very helpful - sorry I haven't responded before but I've not had time to myself to log on.

Sorry - for dosages and medication, Laura-CCC4 and alcesterpigs are the best people to ask!

I can only answer the regularly asked for treatments and medication.
