Dot slightly bulging eye

I cant believe it, first uterine growth, then bloat, now one bulging eye.

Its not too bad, but she is squinting with the eye that is slightly bulging, i can see the grey perimeter around her eye, where as normally i could only see it if she was straning to look to one side. I realise i could have a dental pig here😣.

I'm booking her in the vets when they open, hope she can get in today, ive rang in sick anyway, because i have a stomach bug.

She has no cloudiness, no blue tint, no redness. Not yet anyway

fingers crossed she's just happened to scratch it which would be easily treatable. Poor girl has been through it recently

I do use that hay called alfalfa king timothy i think its the culprit, sharp and hard. But they love it , so i kept feeding it. Can a scratch cause a bulge?

I'm worried its an abscess behind the eye or a elongated tooth root, but simon checked her eyes last week, you know when they gently press them in? Like a routine health check

Hope its nothing to worry about! Betsy had a slightly bulging eye a while back and I took her to the vets who said that as she has cataracts it's something to do with the pressure in the eye not being able to release itself as it normally would. So it may be something like that. This is what her eyes looked like

Normal eye

Good luck let us know what the outcome is.

Yes, the top pic is how it looked last night, but now it looks alot better, Dot is only 3, can cataracts still come? Ive only had an old boar with cataracts, but no bulging eye

Poor Dot, she's certainly got a lot going on with her health lately! Hope its nothing serious x

Betsy is only 3 and that photo was taken last April so she would have been just 2 then.

Betsy can be a bit nippy cos she can't see and because of that she has difficulty understanding what is going on at times. I always have to remember to talk to her and tell her exactly what is happening (I know she can't understand but it makes me feel better:lol!:). If I talk to her and stroke her she doesn't nip quite so much.

Dot is squinting alot now in that eye. Just stared at her for a few minutes. Surely the vet will take her as an emergency?

Thats funny, Dot is nippy aswell, its like she doesnt expect you to be near her, then suddenly snaps, but she doesnt actually sink her teeth in

Yes a scratch can cause a bulge. Lily's eye was twice it's normal size when she scratched hers. I was sure she would end up losing it

That's what Betsy was like when she was at the "I can see really ....Um ..... Oh no I can't" Mind you Dennis is like that too but he just sleeps alot. Like "the lights are on but nobody's home" and he can see fine. Pleased you managed to get her seen today.

Poor Dot :( I hope you can get her in to the vets today. I’m currently waiting for the vets to open myself as Dexter is poorly with cystitis again :( My Emma got cataracts at 3 years old, it really can happen at anytime

She is in for 11am. Wishing all the best for dexter👍

Hope Dot is alright, you’ve done the best thing getting her in quickly. Eyes are not things to just wait and see what happens. Ted has a slightly bulging eye on his strange pre molar side. I notice Simon always checks that side of his face carefully but never comments so I suppose it’s fine. It’s not cloudy in anyway just sticks out a little more than the other side.

Fingers all crossed for Dot this morning x

Fingers crossed for Dot
Hope it not serious.
I had an elderly rat with a cataract in one eye, he managed just fine. He did use to sway his head sometimes to try and judge distance.
Hugs.x
