Elphie went to see our local vet today as she has conjunctivitis, which she has been given drops for.

She's also got mild diarrhoea so we have been given 0.16ml of baytril to give twice daily, I just want to check the dose is correct. Elphie is very small at a teeny 780g. I was going to ask Pebble directly, but they appear to have been banned?

I tried using the guinea lynx calculator but I didn't quite get what I was doing.

The bottle says 2.5% solution (100ml) per ml x 2.24
0.16ml twice daily
Elphie 780g

was going to say the same. baytril is likely to make the issue worse. and the eye drops are usually enough to treat conjunctivitis.

Why has she been given baytril? For diarrhoea? Baytril is more likely to cause diarrhoea? If she has conjunctivitis then eye drops should be all she needs.

I did wonder about antibiotics for diarrhoea (I was concerned we might be given Zithromax as this is what Simon prescribed to help Elma's conjunctivitis). She's not our usual vet you see, with it being a Sunday. What should I do about her diarrhoea? I've not been giving her any veggies and I've put extra hay in, plus I've been springing her a couple of mls of water to keep her hydrated.

Is it proper diarrhoea or just soft poo? Elma must've had severe conjunctivitis for Simon to have prescribed Zithromax in addition to eye drops. I have never had a piggy have a bad reaction to Zithromax but when I have given Baytril I always find it upsets their gut.

She has a mixture of soft poops and leaking runny poops. And yes Elma's was very severe, it spread to the lymph nodes in her neck. Elphie isn't having antibiotics for her eyes though.

I've had three piggies on Zithromax, two have reacted badly and suffered terrible diarrhoea and anorexia. Elma was fine, though.

I read on another thread that fibreplex is recommended, is this the right stuff? How much do I need?
