Dougal Is Still Single - What To Do?

Hi, I've been trawling the internet looking for possible partners for Dougal to go boar-dating with, but the world seems to be full of paired-up piggies. He has been living alone since Mother's Day through no fault of his own, although he had chosen to mostly separate himself from the two other boys quite a lot before that. I wonder if I'm best to continue the search for a male partner for him (running the risk of him maybe having a long journey to go and meet someone, and then it not working out) or take the plunge and have him neutured so that he can get himself a wifey. He is around 6-7 months old.

Have you contacted the various rescues in the Midlands via email, messaging on fb or ringing up? They often don't advertise their single piggies for bonding on their websites and they may have more boys in the pipeline that are not yet quite ready for rehoming, but will be soon.
(PS: Note that the RSPCA Walsall only bonds baby boars or neutered boars)

Alternatively, you can think about neutering with a good vet like simon Maddock at the Cat&Rabbit Care Clinic in Northampton or one of our other recommended vets. Dougal is an ideal age for a quick healing process. Choosing the right vet will minimise the risk of complications. You will need to allow for a 6 weeks post op wait before a boar is 100% safe to go with a sow.

I would still contact Walsall RSPCA to see if they have any boars who could be bonded with Dougal as he's not much older than a baby. If after that & you could maybe look at the rescue locator at top of page. There's also the Potteries Rescue. I agree with Wiebke, if you do decide to get Dougal neutered it's essential to get a vet who is doing these ops on a regular basis & then there is less chance on problems. Simon is one of the best vets in the country but you may have someone closer. Either try the vet locator or contact one of the rescues I've already mentioned to ask where they get their boars neutered. Good Luck whichever road you take.

Thank you for your suggestions. I didn't realise that rescues don't necessarily put their single boys on their websites, so maybe the shortage of candidates for boar-dating isn't as bad as I thought! I would like to explore that avenue for him first, as I don't like the idea of putting him through unnecessary surgery, unless its that or loneliness.
