My guinea pig is very We t around her mouth and i think its to do with her teeth, she isnt eating and she is breathing loudly, what can i do for her? I have brought her inside. I will take her to the vet when my mum gets home, around 4. 8...

Oh poor piggie. Keep her nice and warm. Have you tried giving her some grated carrot, or something easy to eat. A drop of water wouldnt come amiss. If you havent a syringe, use a drinking straw suck some water up, then put your thumb on mouth end, when you take thumb off drops will come other end, just a idea. Hope she will be ok, keep us posted...xx

i gave her a whole carrot, but she just turned away from it, i will try grating it, i do have a syringe, so i will try that, thankyou!

if her teeth are poorly she probably wont be able to bite from the carrot, or maybe bite but cant chew, grated may help x

Unless it's something obvious such as something stuck in her front teeth, please do not poke about with her mouth - let the vet sort it. Is she pooing and walking about ok? Giving a small amount of fluid and some grated veg is fine - as long as she is happy to take it, I wouldn't force her to eat until the vet has had a good look inside.

shes not really walking, and i have not seen her poo yet, she turnet her head when i gave her the grated veg.

have you booked her in the vets? she does sound like she needs to see a piggie vet asap. fingers crossed for her...

i personally would keep her warm, keep a close eye on her and take her straight to the vets when your mom gets home. hope she is ok. please keep us informed as to how she is.

Oh dear, poor little one :(
Could be her teeth need checking (dental piggies do dribble and so their hair becomes wet) she may have something simple like hay stuck on her molars etc. A vet will be able to flush it out and have a good look.
Cucumber skin is recommended as it helps clean their mouths of food and any debris so maybe try that ?/
Would definitely get her to a vet though - piggies can go downhill very quickly and if her poo's are absent, few or far between, need to get her eating asap. Catch 22 situation, can't eat due to possible dental problem but needs to eat to prevent gut stasis - a vet really is the only option :)
Keep us posted and send healing vibes for your little one x>>

I will take her to a vet when i mum gets home, but you dont need to book an appointment to the one I'm going to. Thanks for all your help :)

If it is her teeth, how much do you think it will cost? not that it would stop me from taking her, just not sure on how much to bring?x

If you take your mom with her, she may need to bring her card :) Having piggies teeth done varys in price, so it all depends. Better to be safe than sorry! :)

Turns out it was nothing to do with her teeth, she was in alot of pain and the vet thought it was her kidneys, she gave me two options but it wasnt very likely she would have made it, so they put her to sleep. 8...8...

oh honey, I'm so sorry, thank goodness you took her straight away.

Hope you are ok.
