Wilbur was not eating his veggies with enthusiasm tonight and noticed he’s dragging his back left leg.
Looks like a trip to the emergency vets tonight. Also he’s lost 170g since Sunday. Gave him .35ml of loxicom and some recovery food but he’s very subdued and not eating his hay or wanting to move. Bad things seem to keep happening 😕

Hi!

Unfortunately, quite a lot of very different things can go wrong and cause back leg paralysis in one or two legs, but the massive weight loss in combination points very much to a major pain issue.

If you come home with your boy, please step in with round the clock syringe feeding.

At Queen Mary RVC hospital. No exotic specialist on site but should be assessible by phone for the vet. Waiting for him to be seen - will ne checked straight away but delay returning to us as other emergencies in.

So last night the vet identified some thickening around the left knee and a’suspected septic arthritis as his temperature was slightly high at 39.6 (0.1 above normal). Otherwise seemed fine. Sulfatrim antibiotic.

Syringe fed him as soon as we got home. This morning it was a struggle to get meds and food in and very lethargic so called our vet as soon as they opened and now home from the appointment. Temperature down to 37.5 and not entirely convinced by the earlier diagnosis. Possibly hip injury but not dropped or fallen from anywhere. Hydration etc ok but given more pain relief and gut stimulant ( buprenorphine and metogoprimide?).

Back to see our normal vet who has her own GPs at 9.15 tomorrow at the surgery with xray machine. So round the clock feeding with fingers and paws crossed until then or we’ll be back to RVC.8365AAAE-D97C-4CEC-A699-F1BE7EB4C15C.webp
 
So normally his ears etc would be a brighter pink. Having more feed at the moment and he did nibble on some mint. Will keep at it every couple hours tonight so thinking of having him in the room with us rather than the others but probably better for him to be in more familiar surroundings? He’s currently single having fallen out with Crumble (aka Brwsi).

I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed that you and your vet can get to the bottom of it!
 
Gained 30g today but very quiet and not looking good. Hoping he can hang in there.
 
Did Wilbur not make it through the night? If not I’m so sorry for your loss.
 
Sadly Wilbur passed away at around 7am this morning, despite the best efforts of vet Ed and the team at Queen Mother’s RVC Hospital. Having our other two checked by the vets just in case, after an awful month.
