Dribbling guinea

I am more than happy to offer a temporary sanctuary place if you would like her to be seen by Simon. Sometimes it can be just a very small spur on a tooth that is causing the problem, but can be so easily missed.

I once fully syringe fed a guinea pig for 5 1/2 months! She had dental issues but was very well in herself and bright and lively. I would never syringe feed for any length of time if all I was doing was keeping them alive when they had no life quality.

If you want a chat on the phone just let me know and I will call you xx

All the best for little Biscuit. Sorry, I have no advise.

Please do not give her ready brek as it contains sugars and salts. Plain porridge oats mixed with warm water is what you need.

I hope Lacey is doing ok too xx

My goodness that is such a generous offer thank you so much! I have pm'd you my contact details or please PM me yours and I can call you, whatever is most convenient.
5 1/2 months! I think I'd be having a nervous breakdown by then!

THANK YOU!

Thank you Claire, very good point I had not thought of that.

Lacey is very very well thank you, enjoying the life of riley and picking up all the food that Biscuit cannot eat (they are in the hospital cage together), her eye is healing well. She had some weeping yesterday but that has now stopped and she will have the stitches out Monday..here's hoping it stays that way!

Update this morning. Biscuit is going to wonderful Debbie tomorrow! I am so relieved and it was so good to speak to Debbie yesterday who seemed quite unperturbed by the mystery surrounding Biscuit's symptoms. Lets hope she and Simon can work their magic!

She has slightly improved today as well, gently nibbling on some bits and pieces, still finding it very hard but a slight progression (and i am clinging on to anything). She is still dribbling and losing weight though so we are no means out of the woods yet. Lets hope after this dark week things turnaround.

Thank you Debbie you actually enabled me to have a proper nights sleep last night! x

This is great, I am so pleased. She will have the best of care with Debbie and Simon. Love to your little girl and lots of healing vibes her way x x

Thank you Sport Billy. I am so pleased. I know there are no guarantees but at least I know we would have jointly done everything we can for her and given her the best chance. She is still feisty and full of spirit despite losing so much weight, so I know she's up for it. I just want all my herd back together again and happy (even if one is minus an eye!). It will be heart wrenching leaving her and her friend tomorrow but I know it is for the best. It will be an emotional day and I will be taking many tissues (be ready for a flood Debbie!).

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow. Little Buttercup has arrived today too and will be seeing Simon tonight, so it's all happening here! I have got Biscuit booked in to see Simon at 10.50 am on Monday. xx

Wonderful thank you! Apparently she has been nibbling on some grass today! Just got a text from my mum. Still need to understand whats going on though so we'll still bring her over. Really looking forward to meeting you all including little Buttercup (cute name!). x

Hi, sorry to hear your little one is going through such a bad patch at the moment. I read through all the posts and some of it sounded similar to Panda. She was slowly loosing weight and all her teeth looked ok. She would attempt to chew and then give up as if she couldn't be bothered. She had an examination under g.a and it was found that she had chronic jaw pain which made it extremely painful to eat.

Hi Midge

Thanks for that. I did wonder this as well initially although she has had a GA and Xray and we could'nt find anything. We'll get Simon to check again. She is responding to the antibiotics though but did'nt to the pain meds so I am hoping its an infection or soft tissue issue. Maybe she has something stuck in her throat. Its a total mystery.

How is Panda now? Did you get around this with pain relief? Did she dribble? Biscuit is constantly dribbling (which she is very embarrassed about).

No Panda didn't dribble it was just the reluctance to eat and the slow weight loss. Panda had been on long term steroids which meant after stopping them she would have had to wait 2 days before starting pain relief. Because of the diagnosis as well as her breathing problems (steroid usage) and a poor reaction to the g.a. It was a case of her having steroids and us syringe feeding her and being in constant pain for the rest of her days or giving her pain- relief and constant worrying about her breathing and chest infections which she was prone to. We made the difficult decision to help her over the bridge. :(

Oh thats so sad Midge. Its so hard when you fight for them for such a long time. Is that her picture in your profile? She looks adorable. RIP little beauty. x

So an update on Biscuit for those of you interested....the lovely Debbie and Simon are working their magic. He saw her today and a swollen tongue and white line actually on her tongue points to a fungal infection. It all adds up and also explains the constant dribbling. So she is on Intrafungal and we hope to see an improvement in a few days. She goes back to Simon for another check up next Monday. So Debbie is having them for another ten days or so. She must have been so uncomfortable!

All I can say is thank goodness for people like Debbie and Simon. Without them we would have been in a terrible, impossible situation and I fear we may have lost Biscuit eventually.

My vet is gutted she did not see this but she wants to learn and will make note for future cases, which is good news. She is very supportive of me taking her to Debbie and Simon and keen to learn anything she can, what more can you ask?

Hopefully we will gave a happy ending. I will keep you posted...and Debbie I do apologise for their naughty behaviour...I will be having words when they come home!

Todays update - Biscuit is doing fantastically well. She has now been on itrafungal since Monday and it certainly seems to be doing the trick. She is now eating quite well for herself. You can see her confidence growing all the time. She had obviously got to the point where she associated eating with pain, which has made her a bit cautious, but I feel we are well on the way to a complete recovery.
