Ok, I've read the posts about pigs who don't drink, but my two drink loads!

They go through half their water bottle each day, I guess thats about 250ml. I have the central heating on a lot, could this be why they're drinking so much? I hope so rather than it being something more sinister.

Oh, and they get loads of veg too.

And Eric's been poorly recently with an abscess. Could this have made him more thirsty?

If they have always drank a lot of water then I wouldn't worry. If it's a change in behaviour then I would want to know everything else was ok as it could be a sign of illness. Not sure about the abcess causing it but might be worth checking with your vet.

Hi
Ginger my 4-5 year old boar that I adopted 18 months ago drinks at least 250ml water every day and has done so ever since I first got him so I don't think there's anything wrong with him. He's in a cage on his own and the bottle isn't leaking so he has to be drinking all this. My other adopted piggy, Noggin drinks next to nothing despite living in the same environment and getting the same diet so I feel it's down to the individual piggy.

Oddly enough my lot drink much more in the winter months, I think perhaps it's because they're not chomping grass all day

Mine are like too - they're drinking loads of water just now.

If they've always drunk this amount then I'd say you're fine. 250ml between two guineas (125ml each) sounds fine to me. I have some guineas who drink huge amounts too, I guess they're just thirstier pigs!

I was worried about my 2 a little while ago as they suddenly started drinking more, but as others have said it can be due to central heating being on, eating less grass etc. It can sometimes be a sign of diabetes in piggies but if they have always drunk alot then i wouldn't worry!
