There isn't really a problem with my guinea pigs (as far as I know), but I was just wondering, Lola seems to take a couple of short sips of the water quite often. There's not been hardly any water level change, so I know she hasn't been excessively drinking. She only takes small sips, do I have anything to be concerned about here?
Forgot to add, I have a 600ml bottle, but I doubt that is relevant!
 
one lot of mine drink hardly any water and the other lot drink loads. Do you wash their veg before you give them it and do they get cucumber? They will be getting moisture from them.

I don't always wash the veg, yes, they get cucumber.
I'll wash the veg each time then ;)
 
You must always wash vegetables before you give them to piggies to remove any dirt. Treat them as you would do yourself in that sense.
 
The vets went well. As regards to the red back feet we should put some sudocrem on them, luckily they're not bumblefoot! The vet did a full check on them, and said they're well looked after and no cause for concern.
We have to keep an eye on the drinking -how much goes in a day. At least I've got my mind at rest.

I started off with fleece upstairs as well as downstairs. But we had a hard time with keeping it 'satisfactory' in the bedroom area, because we had hay piled on top of it, and it stunk to high heaven! :hb:
And the pigs used to love dragging the fleece from the landing to the ramp :no: I don't think it would be possible to do it upstairs again.:(

If it would be possible, then of course I'd take back fleece upstairs.
 
Did it smell after being changed every three days? Do you have a layer of towels underneath the fleece?

Yes, there's a layer of towels under the fleece, my fleece get's changed every week.
The fleece downstairs doesn't smell at all, it was just in the bedroom it was horrific!
 
What about swapping the wood shavings to something like fitch, it is a lot softer than shavings. I use that in the areas they pee the most (bedroom upstairs and under logs downstairs) with newspaper and hay). It is then really easy to clean those areas out (every 2-3 days) and I do the fleece areas every 4-6days.

I will research fitch, just need to try and find where to buy it!

It has to be changed every three days. Any longer and it will smell and bacteria will be mounting up all over the towels due to urine.

I cannot being changing it every 3 days I'm afraid, the system with the bedding I have at the moment is working well, just going to change woodshavings for fitch.
 
If you go onto the fitch animal bedding website and use the phone number. This happened at the back end of last year as well. The website claims to be able to deliver the following day (which it will if in stock). When out of stock, if you phone them they will send a bag out to you as soon as they can. Last time I think it took about 3-4days so really not too bad if you are organised! The company did not realise how popular fitch would become so sometimes have a bit of difficulty keeping up with demand. They put 'out of stock' on the website until they replenish the stores and can therefore do next day delivery again. But, as I say, if you phone them up they will get a bag out to you as soon as poss.
