Hi! I'm new to this forum, but have kept guinea pigs on & off for years. I recently bought 2 female pigs from a farmers auction. They quite young, gorgeous little things, & look in very good condition. Only thing is, they never drink from their water bottle. I don't know what they were kept in before, cage/hutch but either way I'm assuming they will have had a water bottle to drink from. I have tried putting the bottle to their lips myself, they just let it run down their chins. The water level doesn't go down but there doesn't seem to be any signs of severe hydration. Anyone else experienced this or know how to show the pigs where to get their water? Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Some piggies take a while to start eating and drinking properly in a new environment. They also get fluid from their veggies.

There are several good articles and threads on here. Have a read and feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for your reply. They're eating no problem so yes, they're getting some fluid from grass & veggies. I haven't tried a bowl, will have to if this continues but I've just bought them a new bottle! They could just be shy, I'll keep my eye on them.

A couple of my piggies didn't drink from a water bottle either. Penny drinks from it fine, but I had to give Nickel and Cocoa a ceramic bowl to put water in. I suggest putting a bowl in their cage, perhaps underneath the water bottle and show them to drink from it? Best of luck :)
