OMG Some kids just kicked a ball into my garden with force just as I was sitting at the hutch with Disney and I dropped her, managed to grab her quick so she didn't hide under the shed but am I now worried that she maybe hurt. She fell from sitting height that god I wasn't standing with her.

I have put her back in the hutch after a cuddle and I did check her over and she seems fine and has been nibbling on hay but god it made me shake and I told the kids off grrrrgrrrr

Do you think she will be ok, I am so worried :...

Hiya, dont worry ive dropped a pig before he was squirming and threw himself out of my arms its horrible!

if she is eating, not appearing in pain walking fine etc then she should be ok.. just gently check her legs make sure they are all moving normally and that she doesnt appear to be in pain.

She is just sitting in the hutch at the moment but is eating, they had been in the play pen in the garden and I was just putting them back so I reckon they are tired anyway ....... but it had made me feel sick and the kids are devasted that I dropped her 8...

Thanks for kind words x

when i first had sonny, he managed to jump out the cage! so i was devastated and didnt know what to do. i just held him and made a promise that he was my priority in life now so he wouldnt ever get hurt (I'm sticking to that too), i checked his feet by making him do bicycle movements with my finger tips, he was able to move them, no squeeks of pain but i could feel resistance. so i knew he was ok. if they can walk more than a few steps, they're ok. if they've broken their backs or done something bad, they usually do a few steps and die i'm afraid, but your little piggie sounds like she's going to be fine :)p:)p:)p best of luck

Yeah I've just been down to the hutch and taken her out, she never made a sound. I checked all her feet and toes and she seems ok, when I put her back she walked into the hidey so hopefully ok :{ just feel so bad.

she's ok honey, dont feel bad. but that's easily said isnt it! i dropped sonny when he was 8weeks old, now he's 6and a half months old and as cheeky and fast as ever! he's got a mad personality, he seems to grin at me! must be the drop that did it *NOT* jokes x

A pig with a fractured spine will not necessarily "take a few steps and die". That is an overly pessimistic view. Many pigs with a spinal injury, which has caused hind-quarters paralysis, go on to live out a normal life span.

if she doesn't seem as spritely as usual, she's probably in a bit of shock.
keep her snug in lots of hay, give her some veggies and water, and leave her on her own for a little while to have a time out.
guinea pigs are delicate but at the same time very sturdy little things. like other people have said, if she doesn't seem in pain and is walking okay, don't worry too much. check on her later and see how she is, but if she was already eating so soon afterwards i'd say she's probably not sustained any serious damage =]

hi as most of youi know my 8 month old Boris fell from standing height and fractured a vertebrae now we checked him all over and he seemed perfect but his injurys started tyo show the next day i wouldnt worry just keep watch each piggy reacts and can withstand things differently if you do notice any dragging of the legs or general mobility problems dont hestitate to go to the vet the quicker the better many good wishes for your little piggy xx

Good luck sweetie, it's so hard with piggies they're like wriggly worms rolleyes
Just a little hint, when picking up or putting back piggies into their cages try putting a towel into the cage and putting them on that and then scooping them up all snuggled in towel and then same when putting back you can just lower towel into cage and they can run off to their house :)
Some little kisses for Disney and HUGS for you love xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Thanks Glynis .... she seems fine this morning but will keep an eye on her. Just scared me really (and her), and upset the kids and they thought she was going to run away.

One of my piggies leapt out of my arms and fell to the floor and broke his front teeth. He didnt appear to damage any limbs and two years on he is absoloutely fine. The teeth grew back quite quickly. He was quiet after the fall but soon came round. It is a horrible feeling when this happens but I'm sure you would know if your piggy is in pain. I think most piggy owners will have experienced a fall at some point.
