hi,

I have a 3 year old male guinea pig. he has been perfectly normal lately but in the past few months it seems that his right ear has been bothering him. he flicks it all the time which he has done since I got him as a baby but he used to only do it when he was excited or screaming. he has also been scratching his ear a lot. he will let anyone touch it and in fact he loves having his ears rubbed when I pet him. it doesn't always bother him but he does often flick it and when he does scratch it he does so for around 30 seconds to a minute. it doesn't stop him from running around or playing with his toys but it seems to be slowly getting worse. the ear also doesn't seem to look any different and looks just like the left one. it only seems to be the right ear that bothers him as he rarely flicks or scratches the left. I have looked up many times what it might be but nothing has helped me to figure out what is wrong. I have seen that it could be a few things but I am hoping it is nothing serious as I love him and he is my little baby. any suggestions would be very helpful to me thanks 🙂

Welcome to the forum! If you are at all worried about your piggy take him to the vet. If nothing else it will ease your mind that there is nothing amiss. If there is something wrong your vet can give you a diagnosis and treatment.

Hi and welcome!

Please have his ear vet checked. It may be a build-up of wax in the ear, rabbit ear mites or a fungal skin infection. Only a hands-on examination can tell. PLease don't home treat on spec as you could damage the ear not treat for the correct problem. Never pour anything down his ear.
