Hi guys
Iv noticed Ollie my 3 yo fur has looked funny recently. Theres no shine to it.
When i checked last night his skin is very flaky all most lke dandruf.
Hes also covered in little scabs from scratching it and he has a patch on one side about 2 inch long about 1 inch high, where the fur has either fallen out or its very short.
There was a loose scab in his fur so i gently pulled it out and some hair came out with it.
Any ideas at all?

Thanks

Hi!

Sounds like the very common problem that I just took my piggies in for. Nothing to worry about, but I would recommend taking him to the vets and having a course of Ivermectin. usually needs 3 doses over 3 weeks and usually clears up the problem x

sounds a bit more fungal to me but I d treat for both mange and fungal personally.

Ivermectin drops once a week for 3 weeks (something like Xeno 450) and a Nizoral Shampoo bath once a week for a few weeks (though leave at least 48 hours between doing the ivermectin and then the bath)

Thanks guys, can I treat him without taking him to the vets?
Only asking as my vets can be hit and miss with who I see and treatments. They also charge alot for small doseages.

Thanks

you can buy Xeno 450 online from places such as vetuk and Nizoral shampoo you can get from boots.

With the Nizoral leave it on for about 5 mins and then wash off and follow the instructions with the Xeno 450.

Id also give the cage I good disinfectant

You can ask the chemist for their own 'brand' nizoral shampoo as it's just as affective, same ingredients just a under a different name and a lot cheaper.
My daughter has it prescribed for her and the chemist told me they are exactly the same thing.:)
