hi my pigglers are about 9 months now and I'm sure i read or was told that when they are 9 months you keep the handfull ish per pig per day of veg but cut down the unlimited nuggets etc to a handfull per pig per day ?
is this true ?

nice one.dan

You are meant to but personally I dont! I just leave a bowl full for them to munch on whenever they want. As long as it is not interfering in the amount of hay they eat it is not a problem.

ok cool.yeah they have unlimited hay !
nice one:)

I fill up the pigs dish with dry food in the evening and by morning its pretty much gone, they then don't have anymore until the following evening. They get plenty of veg and hay so really don't need anymore dry food.

I weigh my pigs' food and give them 30g of pellets each per day. Any more than that and I find they eat less hay.

I am a very bad owner and don't weight anything :)

My piggies are 9 months and have a bowl of pellets in the morning and I refill their hay rack, my daughter gives them veggies when she gets home from school and they don't have more pellets until the following morning

I was told by my vet twice now that you can't give them too much pellets. They should have a diet of hay and veg with a little bowl of nuggets as rabbits and pigs can fill up on the nuggets (as they are tastier for them) and will not eat as much hay which is what they need for thier teeth and digestion. I usually just give them a bowl with a small amount in

Phew! I was actually going to start a thread about dry food- my pigs dont eat much of it and was worried but they go through a hay rack a day if not more and they get their veg once a day, sometimes twice so I'm no longer worried :))

An adult piggy that has stopped growing between 12-15 months old will need only about a handful or half of pellets, so between the time their growth rate slows down (about 6-9 months old) you start to reduce their pellet intake VERY gradually. If you do it too quickly, they'll notice and you will have a riot at your hands. ;)
