Hi there,

Our little princess pig is wearing a bandage at the moment as she’s recovering from bumble foot, I think we are almost done with the vet however in order to get the wound on her foot completely healed she decided to bandage her foot.
So we have been changing it every two days but I’m noticing that her foot is getting quite dry. Would you recommend I get a pot of the gorgeous Guineas foot rub and put on her foot under the bandage around the wound or am I wise just to leave it? We are going back to the vet on Friday, that’ll be two weeks with the bandage. It is looking much better and not raw anymore so I’m praying we are on the home straight! Her leg under the bandage is also a wee bit baldy but I’m hoping it will grow in fast once the bandage is off
Thanks

Although it sounds like it is doing better, I worry about using bandages on feet, after a friend's vet advised she did that with her piggy and he ended up losing part of his foot, as it was bandaged too tightly. I wouldn't go using anything on the foot, without discussing it with your vet first.

Hi! Please speak to your vet whether bandaging is the best way forward for you and what you can safely use on the foot.

The vet has advised the covering the wound to allow it to fully heal that’s why we are doing it.
I’m confident it’s not too tight round her foot. It’s a stretchy one loosely round her foot them I put a bit slightly up,her leg to keep it in place.
I’ll not use any creams the until I speak to her on Friday

How did you keep the bandage on the foot? I cant seem to find a way to keep one on my guineas bumble foot

Hiya, sorry just seen this....
it was a stretchy blue bandage the vet gave us. I bandaged a bit round her foot securing with medical tape then I put a bit up her leg and attached to the foot bit. It’s a tricky process and it fell off quite a bit but the difference in her foot with a wee bandage to protect it while it healed was so worth it. No issues now

My piggie has a bandage on her foot and It stays on really well, do you use vet wrap? :)
Think it might’ve been vet wrap. Just really need to ensure you don’t wrap bandage too tight. I just made sure I could gently pull the top and get the tip of my pinky in

The key is to get organised... cut all the bits before hand. Have loads of wee bits of medical tape ready so everything is to hand

I'm wondering if the dry skin is just a buildup of normally shed skin cells which are not shedding normally because of the bandage (have you ever had a cast? It's horrifying the amount of gross, dead skin is built up on your limb under there!) I probably wouldn't worry overly about the dryness and would just do whatever the vet suggested. I would be concerned that having moisture under the bandage could encourage bacterial growth, etc.

Hey sweetie... this was a while ago, I didn’t add cream to her foot after all and after bandage came off it returned to lovely and pinky perfect ☺️ Think this post popped up as someone asked re bandaging tips
