I rescued 4 piggies in quite bad condition. All were ivermeced for obvious signs of mites. 3 have cleared up nicely but 1 had made opens wounds with scratching. She scampers round the cage like a bucking horse, squeaking. She's had a 'body stocking' on for a few days now and the wounds have cleared up well but her skin is very dry and she still has periods of bucking and squeaking, trying to bite or scratch herself, and she's pregnant! Any ideas what I can use on her to ease the itching.

If she has been treated for mites then it might be something fungal. If you have pictures you could email Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas and she might be able to recommend something to ease the itching.

Which mite treatment did you use, it normally needs repeating 10-14 days later?

I used Ivermec. She's due to be done again next week. I don't think it's fungal, only because it says if it's fungal the fur looks greasy and comes out in clumps. Fliss' fur is growing back and her skin is very dry.

I tend to agree with sophiew, it could well be fungal. You have done the right thing with a body stocking to stop the wounds being reopened. The simptoms of jumping and squeeking etc sound identical to Dindys when she was ill.
I have treated her with Nizoral Shampoo with great succes. There are several threads on this forum that deal with fungal infections. I found that the biggest clue is when a hair comes out with a lump of 'dandruff' on it at the root.
PS thanks again for taking in my daughters rabbit 'Nimoy' a couple of weeks ago. Did he manage to budy up with the other bunnies ok? Sancharie misses him.

Nizoral Shampoo is brill used this on jake & worked a treat

Is it ok to use Nizoral shampoo with her being pregnant? If it is , where do I get it from?

Nimoy's doing great. Was chosen straightaway.Been neutered and ready to be bonded with his mate and go to his new home this weekend.

ive used it on pregnant pigs without problems, you can get it from most chemists :)
fingers crossed you can sort her out before the babies come along :)

So glad Petcrazy could answer your question so soon.
Sancharie will be so pleased to hear about Nimoy.:):)

Put a small amount of Bepanthen ointment on the affected areas, it will reduce the discomfort.
A body bandage is not always the best "treatment". When the skin begins to scab/heal the itching can be intensified by having the bandage over the area, besides which, the raw areas tend to heal more quickly if left uncovered.
Try putting boots on the hind feet.
(You will probably tear out your hair in the process).
