I have read up on some things... some say ringworm or a fungal infection? Billie Joe is not my first piggie, but I've never seen something like this before. Taking him in tomorrow, but does anyone know what this is or know any solutions/have advice? I hope my little guy is okay :(20190517_165100.webp

Hi and welcome!

Poor little mite! It very much looks like ringworm. :(

Please read the two links below; you will find them very helpful! The first explains your customer rights and the second will take you in detail through all the steps and aspects of ringworm hygiene to make sure that you get on top of it once and for all as well as containing a list of pictures that show you the different stages of a ringworm outbreak and how it runs its due case.
If you can, please order a bottle of F10 disinfectant tonight so you can step in as soon as possible; it is going to be your best friend! it is widely available online.

Do you have just a single baby?

He was. The same shop I got my last guinea pig from. He lived to be about 6 and a half and never got sick or anything :(

Can I get the F10 from any drug store or pet store? I'd like to pick some up now if I can.

And Billie Joe is alone right now, so no other piggies are gonna get it!

Have you bought him recently? If so whatever you pay at the vets you can reclaim from the pet shop, just keep the receipts, we've seen a lot of ringworm/fungal cases from pet shop piggies x

Yes, it's still within the 30 days. Are the rules for reclaiming from the pet shop the same in the U.S.? I do still havr my receipts and paperwork, so that's good.

I gather you are in the US? Please read our ringworm guide for comparable US brands. F10 is likely only available from places like amazon.

Guinea pigs have normally got a bald spot behind their ears. if it is the same shape on both sides, then you do not have to worry. Guinea pigs regulate their body temperature via the blood flow through their ears. Too much hair in that area will impede that vital function. ;)
Guinea pig body quirks - What is normal and what not?

It would however be the most wonderful gift you can ever make Billie Joe in his whole life if you considered getting him a same sex piggy companion once he is over his ringworm, preferably not from the same store but rather from a rescue if you have a decent no kill rescue with mandatory quarantine and vet care within your reach to prevent more nasty surprises.
Guinea pigs are group animals; round the clock companionship is at the core of their identity, social life and very complex social interaction. You will love watching your two interact and enjoy being loved by two happy piggies! We have now got a much better and deeper understanding just how important this aspect is for their wellbeing, and its far reaching consquences are becoming increasingly cleared. Right now your little boy is at a formative age where he is most desperate for a guide to teach him all the ins and outs of piggy life, what is safe and what and how to interact socially with all the attendant nuances.
