Hi I was checking my guinea pig and noticed two of her bottom nipples are very dry and seemed enlarged. She is not pregnant nor has she ever been. She is 4 years old and healthy. Only thing she had was a skin cyst which is gone now. I want to put something on it to soothe her skin. Can I put pure shea butter on her? If not what do you recommend? Thanks

Hi!

Please have your girl checked for ovarian cysts. Crusty nipples are generally a symptom for them. Ovarian cysts are much more common in older sows. there is a range of treatment options but you may ideally want to see a piggy savvy vet.

You can find more information on ovarian cysts in this guide here: Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)

PS: Could you please add your UK county to your details; it makes it easier for those of us who are not local to you if you are not living in a larger city. Thank you!
