Hi, we have 2 girl guinea pigs who are now about 16 weeks. I noticed at the weekend this one had what looked like dry skin on her ear and today it still looks sore and as though it has been scratched. She doesn't seem unwell, eating normally and isn't scratching it. Any thoughts on what I should do or what this is please?

Many thanks

Please have your guinea pig seen for a fungal infection. Your vet may need to decide whether it is highly transmittable ringworm (the most aggressive form of fungal infection) or a milder and less infective form of fungal. Please do not treat on spec.

If your vet cannot exclude ringworm, please follow our hygiene tips to prevent it from spreading to others and to prevent a reinfection. As the ear has bloody patches, there is a likelihood that it may be painfully itchy ringworm.
