I noticed this morning when I was cutting Ronnie and Reggies claws and grooming them, that Reggie has a lump of dry skin on the pad of his front left paw. I have included pictures (which unfortunately aren’t very clear thanks to a fidgety Reggie), it looks as though it might be a scab of some sort, as part of it is almost hanging off. He isn’t showing any signs of pain and is gobbling up his veggies like usual. I just thought it odd and haven’t noticed it before now. Any ideas as to what it could be?

I would see a vet for a proper diagnosis. It may be fungal in which case a vet would be able to give the right treatment to clear it. Somebody else will be along soon.

It's difficult to judge it from the pic but is it hard and solid? It could be a spur. If in doubt you could pop to the vet just to be safe or try and take a slightly clearer pic to see :)

Maybe have a look online to see if it looks like a spur? :)

That's a foot spur. They are completely harmless and can be left alone unless they grow big enough for it to irritate your pig n which case a vet can safely trim it down.

This might sound silly? But what causes it? And why do they get them? X

Yep looks like a spur to me! I'm not sure what causes them actually, one of my pigs recently had one. I guess it's similar to us getting hard skin?

Does it just come off sometimes then? I don’t want it getting too big and affecting him or causing him pain! Sorry about all the questions! I’m just curious! X

Maybe just keep an eye on it :) I popped to the vet for something else for Tonks a little while after discovering it and she sorted it out while we were there. It was no biggie.
