Hello, wondering if anyone can help me.

I have two teddy guineapigs. Iv taken them to the vets about this issue but the vet basically turned round and said he's not sure as it's not he's area of expertise. Think I'm going to ring back and ask for someone who knows what they are doing but before I do I wondered if anyone could help me.

One of my guineapigs is covered in dry skin on his back end and neck which I know is common in teddy a but he's clearly uncomfortable and he's been eating his fur.

I bathed them just before all this happened about two weeks ago so I'm wondering weather it's a allergic reaction to the guineapig shampoo I used and I treated them for mite and stuff with the spot on stuff for small animals last week and now the area I put it on has also gone bold. I also have a spay that treats mites, lice etc but I havnt used it yet and now I'm not sure if I should incase it just irritates him more.

The guineapig who lives with him only has a very very small amount of dry skin on his bum and hasn't lost any fur.

Pleas could someone help with if there's anything I can do to make him feel better?
Thank you

Hi, welcome to the forum. Please could you update your location as it will help us advise you. To me that looks like fungal, which is common around this time of year and also some teddies can be prone to it. I would definitely go back to the vets. My preferred treatment for fungal is Imaverol dips or the oral medication Itrafungol. The vet may wish to carry out a culture to determine if it is fungal but please note that usually only Ringworm tends to show up using the standard method and this could be one of many different types. Here is our Ringworm guide though in case you need it as it also covers the hygiene measures that would be needed if fungal is diagnosed.

The other possibility is mange mites or a combination problem of mites and fungal. Did you treat with Spot on prescribed by the vet or a product from a shop (which tends to be lower dosed).

Dry skin is also an option but it looks more than that to me.
