One of my pigs has what looks like very thick dry skin on her front foot, I’m posting a picture so maybe anyone who has experience with this can let me know if it looks worrying or not. I can’t ring the vets today as it’s sunday so I’m just hoping that someone on here can offer me a bit of peace of mind for today. Does this look like it could be bumblefoot?

It looks like a foot spur to me. They're quite common and you usually just leave them alone unless they start causing issues with walking.

Her foot does look a bit red though and her nails a little mishaped. I think I would pop her along to a vet just so they can confirm it's not something like a fungal issue.

It's definitely not bumblefoot. That usually involves a scan on the foot and they get quite swollen.

It might be worth changing her bedding too as I've read somewhere that shavings can be drying. You could add a small layer of hay over the shavings to see if that helps.

Thanks so much for replying, I definitely agree on the redness and nail issues as this pic is definitely not the norm for her. I have their hutch in a shed with a concrete floor to help their nails wear down, I’ll start layering hay on top of the concrete to make it a bit more comfortable.
I’ve bathed her feet in malaseb today to hopefully hold off any fungal issues until I can get in touch with our vet tomorrow. I’ll try a layer of hay over the shavings, thanks for the suggestion!

Hi, I can't say it's the woodshavings, why don't you try on fleece you need to put a Mattress protector underneath the fleece. The face has to be 100% cotton. You can't tumble dry it though.
Ah I've seen they run is on concrete. If you see the vet make sure she knows what they are running on. It maybe better to cut they or the vet will do it

Hi! It looks like spurs; they are are very common in guinea pigs. About a quarter to a third develop them irrespective of what bedding they are on.
They only need action if they impede walking or present a risk of tearing the skin when they catch on something. Please see a vet during regular opening hours if you are worried or if you need spurs cut. If they are cut too close to live skin, this can cause more of a problem than a spur itself.

Thanks for replying, I’ll have a look into fleece as I’ve been considering switching for a while now
