Duck came to us 3.5 years ago via a rescue as a potential cage mate for Bertie, he was 4 years old, the meeting in the bonding pen did not go well!. Bertie had already been tried with 9 piggies at that time and Duck had been tried with several. As Duck had always lived alone it was decided he could stay with us as a bar mate for Bertie. He was a very confident guinea pig and was always at the bars begging for a head scratch. This confidence probably came from the training and handling he'd had from birth, he was shown in his first year before becoming a pet. I was going to change his name but he knew who he was and answered to Duck. I later met his previous owner and learnt why he was called Duck (very personal and moving) so I felt I would be wrong to change it. He had been very loved in his previous home and his person had been devastated to have to rehome him when his circumstances changed.
Duck always loved to sleep in a hay pile and had a succession of various hay boxes. He seemed to prefer the comfort of walls around him in a container rather than just a hay pile.

Duck left quietly at home curled up in his hay beside his friend Bertie. He had an operation to remove a small skin lump a month ago which he had recovered well from after a slight set back in recovery to begin with. He was bright and bubbly and his normal self until a few hours before he went leaving his people in shock.

Rest peacefully sweet boy, you will be forever in our hearts.

BIG HUGS

I am so very sorry that Duck had to make a dash in order to catch the plane to the Rainbow Bridge when his last call came through but I am glad that he had a quick and smooth journey, even if he left all of you staggering.

He was a stunning and very special boy who you have given a very happy second half of his long life, allowing him to continue to be much loved by all his human slaves and still have piggy company on his own terms. I am sure that his first daddy was very happy when you kept him informed about Duck's progress.

My thoughts are with you all as he leaves a large gap.

I loved reading about Duck altho it is sad
He was living his life his way and that’s amazing 🥰
It is very hard when a piggy leaves us for RB but I do find the old saying
‘ It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all ‘ is quite apt
You have wonderful memories of Sweet Duck and these will comfort you in the days ahead
Sending much love to you all and to Duck’s bar mate Bertie ❤️

Those are lovely photos of Duck and a lovely write-up. I know it's hard for us people when guineas pack their bags and head off to 🌈 so unexpectedly 😭 but it was probably best for Duck. 7.5 yo is a grand age too.

Thinking of you.

Sweet Duck, he had such a special home with you & your other boys. 🥰

Rest in peace at the rainbow bridge Duck. 🌈

Aw I’m so sorry you have lost your beautiful boy and my heart aches for you 😞 but he lived a lovely long life with you (((hugs)))

Sleep tight Duck x
