Dudley is booked in for his op tomorrow between 8 and 9am. I'm so nervous for him :( i just stared at the phone for 20 minutes before calling them as i just hate that his going through this. Its my birthday on Thursday and my oh has booked us into a lovely hotel in Bristol but i dont think i can leave him.

If you havent already read on my other post Dudley is having an op to remove two absesses that he got after being neutered 8....

If anyone has any advice about what to do before or when he gets home i would appricaite it. And please please please everyone have there fingers and toes crossed for him

thanks everyone aswel for all your support while his been going through this.xx

My heart goes out to you!

Make sure he eats well on the day of the op, as you don't know how quickly they'll get around to operating on him.

When he comes back, settle him somewhere quiet and cosy and leave him be. Don't push him if he doesn't want to eat and let him sleep it off. Make sure he can't hurt himself in case he's still fitting a bit from the aneasthetic.

Be worried if he doesn't start picking up and starting to eat on the day after.

All the best and a BIG HUG!

Good luck to Dudley. We will be thinking of you handsome boy..

Be worried if he does not start to show an interest in food an hour after the operation.

Thanks guys. Ive just dropped him off. Had to go down the motorway! scary stuff! Bless him cant wait for him to be back. I just hope he is ok. Ive dropped him off with some of his food so they can try get him to eat. Ive got the critical care if all else fails and he likes the taste of that.
thanks everyone x

Everything crossed for him today x
Advice wise, keep him warm and quiet and bed him on vetbed or towels to keep his wound clean and tempt him to eat a soon as possible, the sooner he is eating and pooing, the sooner the recovery.

Check the would twice daily...not sure if they are going to get you to flush the abcesses at home or not?

I'm not sure either. There not 100% sure yet if its an abcess so today it about them finding out them taking the right route to get him better. I hope i havent got to flush it :( poor guy. I told my oh that the vet said it will be least ways out £70-£80 but probably more, he nearly fainted lol x

Keeping everything crossed for Dudley. Poor little chap! x>>x>>
I am sure that he will be fine.

Just keep him warm and on soft clean towels or blankets on his return. My vet would not let my newly neutered boars home until they had wee'd, poo'd and eaten, so do check with vet about this. I know he isn't being neutered, but it is surgery. Then tempt him with lots of nice food.

Please keep us posted xx

I find you can't go far wrong with basil. Even the poorliest of piggies seem to manage some of that!

Best of luck Dudley boy xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Chez we'll all be thinking of you and Dudley xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks everyone, Dudley is now home. His very unsteady on his feet and shaking but i think its as she said his only just come round. He hasnt eaten yet she said but ive left him with some veg. Will keep checking him. There were to absesses in the end and shes removed them and inserted two capsules so i wont need to flush them (phew). He needs a check up in 3 - 5 days but she said it all went well x

Bless him! the capsules will be antibiotic beads. Did she give you any metacam painkiller for him? he will be a bit shaky for a while, keep him warm and make sure he has water and try to tempt him to eat xx

I am so glad that Dudley has made it safely through the op and wish him all the best for a quick recovery!

Glad to hear Dudley is home. Get well soon Dudley. Sending healing hugs and wheeks from Mimsi, Montgomery, Matilda & Lady Penelope.

no she never gave me any but i did ask if i could use what i have left over and she said its up to me. When shall i start him on it? and if it still just a drop?

Did she say if she gave him a pre op painkiller injection? they normally do but some vets seem to forget about pain relief for the little furries :{.
I would give him one drop tonight and another in the morning. That is what I would do, but of course I am not a vet. If he is in pain, he won't eat and he must eat to keep his gut moving. How is he doing now? x
