my heart failure piggy is still congested despite being on 4mh frusemide every 8 hours as well as fortekor and vetmedin. I spoke to the specialist yesterday and he suggested NOT increasing frusemide but adding in a different diuretic, but didnt say which. I havent been able to get a hold of him since and am waiting on a call from usual vet to put me up some diuretics.. Anyone any idea which ither diuretics are used in piggys and are safe? I dont want to give her something potentially dangerous.

I am not too sure to be honest, I have heard of Lasix and one beginning with D too possibly but think it is the same thing. I will tag @Abi_nurse in case she is able to help in the meantime.

i only know the one mollie is on but it's for her bladder/excess calcium salts and i'm not sure if it is even used for other conditions, but just incase, it's called bendroflumethiazide :)

Shes on lasix (frusemide). Iv been in tears on and off since yesterday, i dont think my girl has long left. I just dont want to give up too soon. I've been here before with several pets- i know we are getting there, but dont think its time just yet.

it's a hard situation :( we're all here though if you just need to type all your thoughts down. x

Thoughts (l am winging it hear, :hmm:)

But l remember a pig l had cauled Teddy Teef,
Teddy had edemas on both frount legs and if l remember (it was a long time ago)
He responded well to fruzol,
But you have to be very carfull dosing as if you get it wrong you
May dehidrate you pig

Signes of oncoming edemas is usualy swolen limfe nodes in the neck !

Frusol is furosemide. I can't think of another type of diuretic off the top of my head. I don't know any that are dangerous either.

She sounds like she's on (nearly) he highest dose of everything. My thoughts are with you. Heart failure cases can be literally heart breaking as they can get to a point were drugs just cannot maintain them anymore to keep them comfortable.

Thinking of you both. Sorry I'm not much more help.
