For those of you who buy from DustFreeHay, which type of hay do you buy and would you recommend it?

I'm really sorry that I'm not answering this question but I was just wondering if anyone seems to have this. When you post a new thread, it comes up with a thing that says that it will be posted up after a moderator has checked it. Anyone else have this?

I haven't posted a new thread for a while, but no message has ever come up for me (so far!)

I am interested in what dust free hay people are buying though as I was a little confused when I looked at their website what would be suitable for my baby pigs so I ended up getting oxbow timothy and oxbow alfafa to mix myself (from another company)

i did post on your other thread - but i'll reply here also ;)

I regularly buy their large bales (i buy 2 at a time) 1 soft and 1 stalky - the soft hay is like a meadow hay type - is lovely and green. They come in woven polyprop sacks so they stay lovely and fresh - plus it makes them easy to store.

I did purchase their 4 pack of american/english timothy hay - i received 2 boxes of american timothy hay, 1 box of meadow hay and 1 small bag of their stalky timothy hay. I mixed the american timothy hay with either the meadow or stalky hay and it only lasted my 10 just under 3wks - however i do have to say the american timothy hay was the best quality hay - think oxbow or alfalfa king timothy hay and that's what it's like, very long thick strands, very green! my lot loved it - they went made for it!

Another thing to note is the delivery times - if for example i purchased today/tonight it would be dispatched tomorrow (monday) and i would get it on tuesday. Ive known them to dispatch on the same day (i once purchased some at 9am) phoned them to ask if my order went through as it was needed desperately and i got a tracking number within a few hours and my order was delivered the next day ;) Customer service 10/10

I get soft hay. It is lovely and my boys go nuts for it. Occassionally I will mix in stalky hay or something else to keep it interesting but soft is their favourite and they always use the others to sleep on.

Thanks :))
So what is the difference between the plastic bag stuff and the soft or stalky hay?

I've only got 3 piggies but the LOVE their hay. They go though loads of the stuff. I was looking at buying a large bale of soft and a large bale of stalky and then mixing them. How long do you think this hay will keep.
They go through a 1.5kg bag in 4-5 weeks usually, so 2 large bales should last them a while, but will it keep for that long?

I've just placed an order direct from their website for the sample pack of soft, stalky and American Timothy.

At the moment I alternate between Timothy hay from Pets At Home (which they love) and large - and cheap - bags from a local pet store, which since I introduced the Timothy they've not been so keen on.

The bags from the local store also seem to be full of thorny leaves, and the most recent bag had a ton of dust inside. Not keen.

I give mine the soft hay and the American Timothy. Usually buy 10 soft and 4 Timothy and this last them (4piggies) about 4-5 months.

I buy directly from them as they are only a few miles away from me, I buy the soft hay in the large bale, very good quality, never found any thistles, wouldn't hestitate to recommend them.;)

How much do you save by going directly to them? I'm not as close as you I feel, but It might be worth it to make the effort :)

Just wondering how you manage to get threw so little hay in so much time? My two girls get a litter tray full every day and they get threw a 1 kg bag every 1-2 wks.

Thanks :))

I buy direct from the guy at dust free hay as he is on my doorstep, a very genuine guy that prides himself on quality. He explained to me that the hay in the plastic bags was good quality but could possibly contain the odd thistle or two, where as his other soft hay should not contain any as it is of higher quality still. Hope this helps.
