I was in a shop today and i saw dwarf rabbits and guinea pigs together and i was thinking what would happen if i got 2 dwarf rabbits and put them in with my 2 male guinea pigs! My mum and dad say they will be find bu i think they'd fight!
Does anyone know what would happend if i did get 2 dwarf rabbits?

Thank You! xoxo

It's not really recommended to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together because of problems that often occur.
Some include:

- Fighting
- Rabbit sitting on the guinea pig resulting in suffocation
- Zoonotic Diseases

I have two dwarf lops, one being housed with a guinea pig at a previous home before.
I don't house the same rabbit with my guinea pigs but I let them out on the grass together, they tend to keep their distance and not bother each other at all. When they do go near each other, they don't seem fussed at all.
My other dwarf lop can't go near them or my other rabbit. She's a rescue and extremely aggressive towards other animals, so when she gets floor time, she goes out individually and seems to like it that way.

Also even if you got two dwarf rabbits, you'd have to ensure the sex of them, and get them neutered as after 6 months of age, they very territorial.

Rabbits have very long legs and the guinea pigs will probably be accidentally kicked by the rabbit. Rabbits back legs are very powerful.

As above, danger of injury if the rabbit intentionally or otherwise lashes out at the guinea pig. Also randy teenage rabbits can cause serious harm to helpless little piggies. Rabbits do not need vitamin C in their diets so you would have to feed them separately. Transferal of diseases harmful to one but not the other. Umm.... Rabbits are generally more expensive to keep as well. They need vaccination(s) and spaying/neutering is essential to their health and wellbeing.
Rabbits also need masses more space. Minimum for rabbits is a 6ft by 2ft hutch with a PERMENANTLY attached 8ft by 4ft run. :)

Agree with the above. The shop that had animals in this way is irresponsible, RSPCA/Blue Cross etc actively discourage keeping rabbits and guinea pigs together.

Please don't keep your animals together as there are plenty of threads on here that show the damage even small rabbits can do to guinea pigs.

Our local pet shop sells pigs and rabbits, keeping them in the same pen. They also advertise them as 'best friends' to sell as a pair. I emailed the rspca and asked them about this and they said as long as the pigs had places to hide and escape then they were not interested.

That's very irresponsible of that person at the rspca and contradictory to what we all know and what they publish on their website!

Glad to hear you won't try bunnies and piggies together, i recently saw a pic on here of an injury inflicted by a rabbit, poor piggie might well be losing his eye due to damage :(
