Hi pebbles had a uri a few weeks ago and after antibiotics was doing Great, or I thought so. With no prior warning I have woke this am and my dd told me to look at pebbles as he did not go to eat his veg or move away when she went to stroke him. His breathing is heavy and laboured and strangely he looks like he lost weight around hi spine when he breaths. Am waiting for vets to open but he doesn't look good... Sad day ahead I think..

Aww good luck at the vets. I'm sure you will do the right thing. Hopefully he will be sorted &pull through.
Big hug for u &healing vibes from the girls &I.
Xx

Oh I'm so sorry. That does sound like Pebbles is nearing the end but I hope something can be done ((hugs))

Thanks everyone for your positive thoughts. Just got back from the vets, poor pebbles has pneumonia, the vet wants to try and increase his core temp and give stronger antibiotics and try some food. Got to ring back this afternoon, if no improvement I think we will need to say goodbye to pebbles. Just don't want him to suffer but my dd will be distraught !

:(! Bad news.

Hope Pebble can pull through, my thoughts are with you and pebbles xx

Just reading up on pneumonia in pigs, should I be hopeful now he's at the vets? Thanks sat he worried about him and my dd

Keeping everything crossed that the vet can pull him through. I have found that diuretics and Zithromax got my pig through Pneumonia but not the second time he had it.

Oh I am sorry, never thought I would be this attached to the "kids" pets! It's g
Horrible seeing them suffer.

It was a good year or so ago. Unfortunately pneumonia can hit very quickly. He had a good few months after the first dose though.

The vet has just called.. Pebbles has just passed away...really sad

Thank you everyone means a lot. Do I need to be worried about Alan, he looks Looks lonely in his cage alone. Could he have respiratory problems and will he be ok alone?

I would get Alan checked over by a vet to ensure he has not caught it. He will need a new friend as guinea pigs should not live alone. The best way to get him a friend is to take him to your nearest rescue were they offer boar dating. This means he can choose his own friend. You cannot just get another guinea pig and hope they will get on. In the meantime Alan will need lots of cuddles. You can get him a soft toy suitable for babies for him to snuggle up to.

I agree you need to make sure that he has not caught it first as pneumonia can be very contagious. Once he is through the incubation period you should be able to take him dating at a rescue.

I am very sorry for your loss; you did what you could. URI and especially pneumonia can develop and kill very very quickly even with the best of care - you did all the right things! :(

Piggies have a way of worming their way into your heart...

Here are tips on what you can do for a bereaved piggy; in your case, please wait 2-3 weeks (quarantine) unless he stops eating and needs a companion as an emergency: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/

Huge hugs, I am so sorry for your loss

RIP Pebbles
