I have a 5wk old guinea named Pauly who Friday night started leaning his head and loss of balance, so we took him/her (unsure of gender) to the ER and they did a few tests and diagnosed Pauly with an inner ear infection. Well past few days he/she has progressively gotten better but today he has gotten weak again and wobbly. He is on metacam not sure strength but 0.08ml dosage and an nsaid (0.04ml). He/she is eating fine and drinking plenty, and bathroom usage is normal. Does it take baby guineas long to fully recover? He/she weight is 138g. And weight has been same for last few days +or- a gram or 2. Can’t get Pauly to the vet till Friday at earliest, does all this sound like just an ear infection or should I try to make time to take Pauly sooner? It’s rough with work schedule.

Thanks

Please contact a vet ASAP - any sudden deterioration during treatment is very worrying and counts as an emergency.
Weak and wobbly is NOT good at all! :(

I am very sorry and am keeping my fingers firmly crossed for your little one. Babies are still very fragile with their immune system still under construction and not yet the body mass, so they can go downhill extremely quickly.

I agree with Wiebke above, he needs to be seen as an emergency, especially so young and getting worse while on treatment. Unfortunately guinea pigs can deteriorate really quickly when ill. Wishing him all the best.
