Ear Infection Question

hi, my two and a half year old Guinea pig Dennis has been having ear problems, I took him to the vets on Friday and they said it could be an ear infection and gave him ear drops , 1 twice a day in both ears this has made his fur very greasy and he still seems quite itchy in his ears( he was checked for mites and was free of them.) was this the best treatment seen as the vet couldn't definitely say it was an infection? Dennis does also have allergies and has been a bit sniffly lately and abit under the weather, he's also been coughing on and off. Any advice would be appreciated.

What kind of drops is he on? I would not worry about the greasy fur; that will sort itself out once the course is finished.

There has been lots of spring pollen around with the warm days lately. You can see whether placing a bowl of steaming water next to his cage eases the symptoms a bit.
Is the coughing just after eating or is it constant?

Thank you for the advice , Dennis is going back for a check up on Friday . But since my awful scare with my other pig Godfrey I'm just not in my right frame of mind,but I'll try to keep you updated on what happens with Dennis.
