Kasper has an ear infection. I left for work at 5:20am and he was fine. I came home at 9:25am and he was ok. I went out to volunteer until 4pm...He is lying with his head against the litter tray floor so I picked him up and cuddled him.
He was almost rolling on me and struggling to walk. Took him to the vet at 5:30 and now he's back with dog metacam and baytril. She has diagnosed ear infection and he has to go back on monday for ear drops if they are needed.
Trying to give him either of these medications is going to be fun! He hates medication even when it is masked with Ribena!

I feel terrible as I've had one of those feelings that something wasn't quite right for a few days but I haven't acted on it. Apparently he has discharge in one ear and the other is red and inflamed inside. I haven't noticed anything :(

Poor wee thing :(

Here he is after getting a thermometer up somewhere....

Poor boy! Please don't feel badly about yourself. you are a very observant owner and have taken him straight to the vets as soon as there was something to treat. We often notice something slightly off even if we cannot put our finger on it; nor can a vet in most cases! Ear infections can come on quite quickly and Kasper is being treated promptly, so he has got every chance of making a good recovery!

Sending my vibes! Please boost him up with probiotics (one pinch 1-2 hours after the baytril) and some extra vitamin C to strengthen the immune system.

Don't beat yourself up, @theoretikos, you acted as soon as you found something actually wrong. You're a great piggy mum and ear infections can suddenly come on. Poor Kasper. My piggies hate Baytril too, even mixed in Ribena. But at the meet in Birmingham one of the forum members @Pound Shilling & Pig recommended giving a bit of metacam which they love, then a bit of the dreaded Baytril, and so on but ending on the metacam so that the piggy gets a nice taste at the end. Takes a but longer, but is quite successful, as mine are metacam fans. Big hugs to you and Kasper

My Phoebe's ear infection came on that suddenly too so please don't blame yourself. Hope the Baytril helps, it did with Phoebe, though sometimes a stronger antibiotic is needed if it doesn't clear up after the Baytril.

Aww I hope he recovers soon. Please don't blame yourself. You know what amazing masters of disguising any illnesses they are!

Your a fantastic mum to your boys, don't ever forget this. They can come on so fast. Lots of love and healing vibes to Kasper and a hug to you from us both x

Thank you!

@Wiebke I'll have to get probiotics are the vets tomorrow night unfortunately. He is currently eating as normal :)

@VickiA I am about to try your technique. Hopefully he is alright with it!

Good to hear he's feeling a bit better!

are you saying him every day.One of my piggies had a head tilt and it made it difficult for her to eat do I had to supplement her with mashed up pellets that I syringe fed her.Good luck with him.Mean weighing not saying.Do it at the same time every day.

I'm weighing him everyday and he is the same weight thankfully :)

Kasper is doing well. He has been following me around the house for the past two days. Still fighting to give him Baytril and he also hates the Metacam now...

Sometimes I trick my boy into taking Baytril by drawing the Baytril into a syringe and then dipping the end of the syringe into some 100% fresh orange juice. He thinks he's getting orange, but haha, tricked. I then give him a tiny bit of orange mixed with water afterwards to wash away the taste for him.

Good to hear he's feeling better, he looks like my Jon Snow.
