Ear lump - slowly growing

Sending you massive hugs. I’ve been through this recently. Such a hard decision to make. L My Pebble had a bladder stone. I opted to bring him home with pain relief and he had a happy 12 days of being even more spoilt than usual.

Like you I said I’d take him back to the vets when he stopped coming out for veggies and treats. But he never stopped doing that. But his weight was dropping fast and I didn’t want to prolong things by syringe feeding. So he had a lovely big breakfast of all the things he loved, some cuddles and a big pile of coriander at the vets.

There’s not really a right or wrong time. You just have to be at peace with the decision you make. Also a day too early is better than a day too late. I’m so sorry you are in this position.

Thank you for your reply, and she is dropping weight too. I think the weight she has stuck around is the growth too.

My last 2 girls died naturally and it’s horrible seeing them like that, unable to do anything.

I’ll give her tonight and make the appointment 😢 just want her to somehow turn around and be okay.
The house will be very empty without her :( it’s literally full of her stuff and hay but I can’t have anymore right now. My heart breaks too much 💔

There is a vet near me who do home euthanasia, do you think they’d do this for guinea pigs?
I’ve messaged them but they are closed until tomorrow.

I’m not sure. It’s because they use gas first with piggies so they are asleep first. I liked that idea. Literally just going off to sleep.

My vet said I could wait in my car for her to bring Pebble back to me afterwards. I was crying. They were all so so lovely. They had the room ready before I got there too so I didn’t have to wait in the waiting room and I didn’t pay on the day. I called them about 5 days later to settle up. All of these things made it a bit easier to deal with.

Sending you a big hug 🥰

Thank you. I don’t think they will reply to me in time anyway so I’ll have to take her to the vet in the morning 😢 if she makes it. She’s grunting quite a lot, I gave her a little extra metacam which I thought at this stage can’t hurt. Only 0.5ml compared to 0.35 just can’t bear hearing her in pain.

It’s strange she grunts when she tries to eat cucumber, :/ like she wants it but then cries x

May you have happy days and make lots of good memories for as long as long as Ruby has left.
Remember that you will have started to grieve so be gentle with yourself.
Hugs 🤗

You know I said I’d top up her metacam. Well she’s only just squeaked for dinner and had some pellets (which she hasn’t done for days) I know she’s not out of the woods by far and she has gone back to sleep, but that obviously helped somewhat x

I could do with some advice as soon as possible really.
Ruby still very up and down, hides away for a day. Comes out and eats the next day like this morning but still looks uncomfortable even after metacam at 5am
She’s booked into the local vets at 11:30 for a quality of like check.
She’s quite sneezy too but eyes bright (runny nose a bit - clear / white) am I pro longing things or could it be a uri? She’s still hobbling a bit too x

Oh no. I’d see what the vet says first. My vet was very honest with me. He kind of said if I wasn’t going to have the operation done then I should PTS there and then. He reluctantly gave me 5 days extra pain meds.

You could possibly add another pain medication. But realistically the main issue is still there. I’m so sorry. It really is an awfully hard thing to do.

A few years ago I had to have my dog Eddie PTS. He had a brain tumour and was 16.5 years old. I told myself I had given him a wonderful life so he deserved a “good death” if that makes sense.

Sending you massive hugs. I’ll be thinking of you today. ❤️

So I seen the local vet who even said she has no idea about guinea pigs, but she looks bright enough. I kept stressing she was clearly in pain at the best of times occasionally out and about but is interested In food but picky.
She said she doesn’t look that skinny (she was 878g 3 days ago or wherever I last weighed her cus she’s too sore to squeeze on the scales) and I I can feel her hips and tailbone.
I’m going to email cat and rabbit again I think.
I know she won’t get better but at the same time are the ups worth the downs kinda thing.

I’m sorry to hear about Eddie, gosh he was a very good age!
I know exactly what you mean, I’ve had piggies pass at home before and it can be horrible to witness x

It’s great you are not rushing the decision. That’s important so there’s no guilt at the end. ❤️

Good luck with Cat and Rabbit. I hope Ruby has lots more happy days with you.
