It may vary, but with mine I first noticed them scratching and turning to bite the area at the bottom of their back, either side of the spine. Then I noticed the fur becoming thinner where it was being pulled out. One of mine developed a small sore quite quickly and a small bald patch. They do get irritated if you stroke near there but many guineas dont seem to like this anyway!

it is cheif affectionate piggy (blaze) that seems to have this problem. I have noticed his hair thinning and he is hiding under his bedding...
cinder does not have any scabs and he is blaze's best friend. as in they are inseperable.
i can usual stroke blaze anywhere...
