Hi. I have two 10 week old sows who are just gorgeous, Honey and Pip. We just picked them up on Friday. I'm a bit worried that they're not eating enough. They seem to be eating lots of hay but not really finishing off their veg or nuggets. They are fed timothy hay (replaced daily) and a selection of fresh veg (given twice daily). They both love pepper and Pip particularly likes cucumber. There is always veg left to throw away that they havent eaten. We give fresh nuggets every evening and an extra handful in the morning, and although we see them eating them there always seems like there's quite a lot to throw out at the end of the day. Fresh water is given every day and I put a supplement in their water to help provide them with added vitamin c, but they don't seem to drink much. Have put a wee bowl of water next to the bottle in case they can't work out the bottle (although it's exactly the same bottle they had in the pet store). Is this normal? Could they still be settling in? Pip developed conjunctivitis shortly after we took her home, and we now have eye drops for her. Maybe she's just a bit run down? They both seem happy and will happily come out of hiding to eat/play in their cage with us in the room, and will also allow us to hand feed them so definitely getting more comfortable around us. Any advice would be very gratefully received! Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.mybe you could feed less veg so there is not too much waste.introduce new veg slowly and in small amounts.I would advise not putting vitamin c in the water as vit c degrades very quickly rendering it useless.it changes to taste of the water which can cause piggies to reduce or stop taking the water.there are lots of guides on the forum with information on food, new piggie owners.this is a very friendly forum.you have been very diligent taking your piggie to the vet.it can take a time for piggies to settle into new surroundings.Trust is slow and progressive from piggies, but the best honour you can get once achieved.if you have time to take any pigtures we love them !:luv:
