Hi everyone, I'm Heather, always come to this website for advice on my piggie, joined today to learn more,
My three year old pig "Jimmy" has a condition called impaction, meaning i have to empty his bowels for him, this is no problem, but as i was helping jimmy on Wednesday I noticed his poo were quite mushy, i didnt really pay mush attache.n to it, he was eating fine and drinking when friday came i went to empty his bowels and noticed there was nothing to remove? And i gave him a carrott which he usually snaps off me =] but he just took it gentaly? Again on saturday evening nothin to remove from his bowels? And he wasnt to pushed on taking a piece of cucumber off me? Very strange as cucumber is his fav. He is passing some poo but is very little and mushy. ?... Can anyone help?

please take him to a vet. sorry i dont have any advice, but he does need medical attention. maybe someone else will come around and offer more advice. good luck.

Unfortunatly when a piggy stops eating/barely passing anything it can be very very serious so he definaly needs to see a vet, but when you get back just pop and update on and we will try to advise more on how to help.

:)

Welcome to the forum

Hi again, brought him to the vet, she gave me a probiotic to give him three times a day and a multi vit to mix with his water, and injected him with pain killer. So hopfully he will perk up, fingers crossed! If you have any advice i would love to hear from you?

Hopefully those things will help. :)

Did she say what she thought was wrong? Only the painkiller obviously will help him feel better, but you also need to discover what the cause of the pain is. :) Unforunatly normal animal vets dont get training in guinea pigs, so if your vet is not an exotics vet it will probably be worth finding one to get him an apointment tomorrow or tuesday, faster if he doesnt improve.

When giving the multivitamin, Instead of putting it straight into his waterbottle I would suggest you mix this with a smaller amount of water and syringe it, As is his water tastes different he may stop drinking all together.

Is the probiotic in powder form? If so i would administer it the same way as the multivitamin.

Please keep an eye on how much he is eating, if he stops eating, or isnt eating enough he will need to be syringe fed. This can be done with critical care which the vet may be able to give you, alterativly you can soften his pellet food with boiling water, leave it to cool, and syringe that, however if it comes to syringing you may want to ask for help from some more experienced people. :)

She thinks its the bacteria in his stomach, that the good bacteria is gone.. So it bein replaced by paste probiotic through the syringe, and the multi vit is givin to him through syringe and his water bottle has just normal water. I just gave him the paste probioticand multivit by syringe, she seemed to no what she was doin while i was there and she is a german vet if that makes any difference :-)

I'm not sure if that makes any difference, but I'm very glad your confident. Has he been eating propperly? And has he started pooing again? :)

He is eating bits and pieces, no soild poo yet but its only the first ** of treatment so hopfully maybe tomoro or tuesday? He still his active self and chewing, hes not acting sick apart from being picky of *** he eats, ive weighd the amount in his bowel so i will weight it again in the morning. :-) thank you so much from your advice really appreatate it

Thats ok. Also make sure you keep a track of his weight and that he is not loosing.

:)

Just wondering if he is feeling better today, and is eating/pooing better?

Also bumping up so more experienced memebers can add their thoughts.
