Hey there.

I have a strange question,
I know guinea pigs don't store there food like hamsters but sometimes my pig sit there munching when they have no food near them. It's not teeth chattering or grinding. But what is it. Sometimes they even bend down to their back legs and then come up doing it.

I was just wondering.

Thank you

Fern x

Sounds like they are eating their poops. They eat some of them for vitamins I believe is the reason.. But I'm still relatively new to pigs . I know someone more experienced will come along and explain better :)

Guinea pigs have two types of poops, soft ones they eat to reprocess for extra vitamins and the normal hard ones that don't get eaten. So they are demonstrating their nicest habit to you of poop eating :))

Don't worry, it's normal. Between poop eating, and actually whilst they don't store food in pouches inside their mouth, they often have food in their back of their mouths, almost like storage so can sit their eating whilst not appearing to eat. That's another reason to enough you don't feed your piggy food before a vet visit, so if they need to look into their mouths, at the back near their teeth they can get a clear food and not be stuffed up with bits of pepper etc.
