after speaking with the vets again, i removed the hay area to see whether eddie was likely to be 'just' sitting in his own urine due to resting alot. he was dry today so i think that was the issue there. (being wet underneath was something that was concerning us)
he also started eating pepper and pellets again yesterday so is really improving with his eating.
i took him back to the vets this morning and i'm glad i did because the vet could properly see him and have a feel of him properly, the good news is that he said eddie definitely looks much brighter and he's stronger aswell. the vet had another check of his mouth and everything still looks good. eddie actually put up some resistance against the vet and headbutted the nurse aswell which is brilliant

because he didn't have the strength on monday to complain.
the vet had a good feel of eddie's bladder and couldn't feel anything wrong. eddie didn't respond in any way to indicate discomfort. displeasure at being manhandled yes

but no discomfort. his penis was checked and that's fine. he timed a wee perfectly so the vet could see that eddie urinated properly and the urine looked good.
eddie is also stable weight wise now. he's thin but at least the weight loss has stopped now. hopefully we can build up from here.
i said we weren't sure what to do from here but the vet thinks he seems better and so for now, we are going to continue to monitor him and see where we are then. but things are looking positive.

obviously, straight back if eddie seems worse, or if a downward pattern of weight loss starts again.
he's had his last dose of the flagyl today so that's his five day course finished. he is staying on metacam, metaclopramide, cisapride for at least the next 7-10days. the vetergesic he is coming off tomorrow to see how he does. if we feel he is in pain, then we can always re-start it again. and continue syringe feeding aswell. about a packet a day, but adjusting depending on how much eddie is eating. he's eating a bit more veg now, and has started pellets again, and still eating the mix of softer hays aswell. so hopefully he will increase the amount he's eating for himself from now.
he's also moving around the cage more aswell.
i'm really pleased and hopefully this improvement continues. so as things stand, keep going as we are and i'll speak to the vet in 7-10days to re-assess again.
