Edible?

Yes, but it was late noon sun, so didn't do much, needs to be crispy. I bet inside of a window mid day would be great
I've also read that they contain vit d, but I don't know if that's the leaf stem or root, or all of the plant. But if it does have a decent amount of vit d, then that would be brilliant.

I managed to open the link about guinea pigs and nettles from Foordpiggies and it says they shouldn't be eaten by guinea pigs yet the link further on from SkyPipDotBernie says they are a good good source and make great forage for rabbits & guinea pigs and they sell it. Conflicting info!

Just to add as well. I gave multiple links with information off of trusted pages that they are fine to feed, with good review feedback as well on every page

Honestly I don't know why guinea pigs have had so many weird and wonderful theories and tales develped around them - no wonder new owners who use the internet as their resource finish up totally confused!

Nettles are not only perfectly safe but very good - you can eat them yourself to test them if you like - put them in a soup!

They are supposed to be good for bladders. What if they are the answer to stones? You never know. But strongly doubt it lol.

You should see how much conflicting info there is with pet rats. 😱

Could you dry them in the oven?... we’ve got some blackberry leaves out front thinking I could do them with nettles and dandelion leaves. I wish there’s somewhere I knew where I could go foraging...

Once lockdown is over you are welcome to come to Broadstone! I have what is best described as a "wild garden" Lots of Alpine Strawberry plants (they are growing like weeds!). LOADS of Hazel trees and HUGE dandelions. I'll def be drying some for winter forage. Does anyone know what this is and if it's safe?
@teddymouse? I know you are good with forage plants. Can I dry it?

Wonder if you knew an answer. These nettles, when dry, they are still prickly, but don't sting anymore. Are the prickles safe?

My bunny loves milk thistle/sow thistle, but I’ve not giving it to my piggies yet

Not sure if you can oven dry it. Don't know if it will keep all of the goodness in.

How do I know if my nettles are ready and could I dry them in the oven I'm very impatient and I'm due to go for a walk soon so if my boys enjoy the nettles I will pick more

They should crumble when you try to crumble them up. Like crisps but extra thin

Thank you do you know if I can oven them
Don't know, I don't to keep all the goodness in. I'm not sure when they are dry that the prickles are safe. But nowhere said they are not. They arnt like thorns, mornelikr stiff hairs.🤔

In a very low temperature for several hours. Better to leave them out in the sunshine for 4,5 days, put on newspaper, so you can take them in at night time. Even better if you have a green house.
