Last year I had 4 guinea-pigs, Edie, Willow, Marmalade and Sasha and Marmalade seemed to be the bossy one. They were quite a good group, Mamalade was definetly the dominant one but they all seemed to get along well. Sasha died last April and now I think Willow and Marmalade are both quite dominant and quite bold, but Edie is quite shy and when I put food in, Willow and Marmalade go straight for it and Edie waits back a bit, so I spread food around the cage and she does eat, there's no problem with her eating but I think that the other two get along really well and it seems like Edie gets left out a bit. She's not being bullied in any way and they do seem to get along but because Edie's not as bold as the other two, she's quite a nervous guinea-pig and seems to be left out. Is there much I can do? Or is this normal and ok?

I am sure that Edie is fine but this can sometimes happen with trios. Are you in a position to have a fourth sow again or even a neutered boar?

My Eleanor and Eliza were the best of friends for a year and then I adopted Erin. Erin was welcomed in to the group but she too was sometimes left out. I adopted Ena who instantly became Erin's play mate and I now have a very happy foursome. Not only do they get on well as a group, but also as two pairs and it is very rare that one is singled out :)

My Mum doesn't normally mind (if they can all live together then she doesn't mind) but is there a chance that if I got a 4th piggy it would then join Marmalade and Willow and Edie would still be left out or does that not normally happen?
