an hour ago id been into check the piggys and dish out lunch, when i noticed Wally (4 week old peruvian boar) was lying at a strange angle. i picked him up and he didnt struggle (which is unusual, he just hung there)
i noticed he didnt 'feel' as 'stiff' as usual..somewhat floppy. i put him on the floor and he didnt move. carrot in front, still didnt move. i 'banged' on the floor and he scuffled ever so sllightly forward.
then resumed his 'flattened' position, back legs sprawled out either side of body, front legs in normal position, body flat against floor.
i placed him back in with mum and sisters while i quickly tried ringing vets. of course its a bank holiday here..none are open and i cannot get to the emergency one, its just too far with three young kids and no buses running.

ive just been back to check on him, he's making a very faint raspy sound like he cant breathe...
he's extremely floppy now and eyes look glazed. is there anything i can do for him. i think he's dying :(

i dont understand it, he was fine this morning at breakfast. theres nothing that could have fallen on him, no way he could have hurt himslf. he shares a cage with his mum and two sisters and was due to go off to his new family on friday. I'm dreading calling them now, they're going to be heartbroken too :(

I'm so sorry for you and his new family. RIP Little baby.

I'm so sorry. It was so sudden, I'm sure there was nothing you could've done. Maybe he was born with a weak heart.

thank you all, does anyone know of any reasons this could have happened?
I'm guessing the heart thing could be one? (maybe it was a stroke?) but for it to happen in such a young pig who was fine " hours ago. i cant get my head around it :(

I'm so sorry for your loss, very sad. What are the temperatures like over there?

Heart is one thing that comes to mind for me, although without a post-mortem you won't be able to more than speculate. :(

xx

((Hugs)) I'm so sorry, it must have been an awful shock for you. RIP little one xx

I'm so sorry :(
*big HUGS*
It's so strange and tragic...and these things always tend to happen on public holidays when everything is closed too...
Hope you and his mum and sisters will be okay...
Lots of love x

I have no idea what happened but I had to say I'm so sorry for your loss ((((hugs))))
