So I went through all this with Ellen when she turned 4 years old and my vet couldn’t find anything wrong but now I’m going through it with Edward too :(

He used to hover around 1100g but now (after a slow decline in the past two months) he’s weighing in around 1000g

It isn’t his teeth as I’ve watch him eat a carrot and weighed him after veg where he has gained but I’m still worried.

He still has a good heft on him and feels chunky (unlike Enoch who had dental problems).

Could it be his age as he’s now 4 years old sometime this month.

He’s due at the vets with his friends in 3 weeks time for nail trims and check ups. Can it wait until then or should I book him a vet appointment now?

I'd monitor his weight daily for now, as long as he is still happy and eating. If it continues to decline then it's probably worth getting him in before his check up time. If you are worried though there is no harm taking him before. *hugs*

Thank you Ruth. I’ll continue to weigh him daily and see where we’re at. He only weighed 995g yesterday but was back up to 1035g today after his breakfast which is why I know it isn’t his teeth. But I’ll have him in at the vet sooner if he goes below 995g

A tree you weighing him the same time everyday, and are your scales definitely set right.

Hi!

It could likely be the arrival of Elizabeth, who is ranked higher than him and may insist on getting a bit more than her fair share. I have noticed weight changes in the wake of a hierarchy changes/new arrivals/departures - either up and down. Group status matters when one of the group is a food hoover.

Thank you. I hadn’t realised that Elizabeth’s arrival could have contributed
