Happy New Year piggy lovers :)
Hope you are all well and looking forward to 2010.

As a few of you may know one of my dear piggies, Winnie died last year.
After a lot of consideration I decided to get a new girl in the new year to keep my existing girls happy, as they appeared to enjoy being a three.

I have just introduced the new pig (on neutral ground) this morning. I have read all the information and have had a successful bonding in the past. It has been however hard to watch this morning. The other two pigs are chasing, nibbling and hastling the newbie. It has been hours now and they are still unsettled.

Have I made a mistake? Last time it went so smoothly, I know its a dominance thing and its best to leave them to it but what is the normal length of time this will last? and what can I do to encourage peace?

I'm worried Ive caused more problems than good, Eek!

I think i can be from 24hours-1week! but i'm not sure.

Introducing a third party to an established pair is probably one of the most tricky bondings.

You have to see whether they will settle down or whether the young one will stay an outsider - in this case, it would be fairer to call it shots. A trio that works is great, but they don't always and you can't force them to!

Perhaps if you could keep the newbie close to the other ones for a time, so they can interact and get to know each other better may help create a bond when you try to reintroduce them again.

Now they are teeth chattering and it appears to be more aggresive. Is it best to leave them? Oh I just dont know what to do.

When do I call it quits? Is it safe to leave them together over night? I feel terrible now. One of the pigs seems to be ok with the newbie, its just the younger female who appears to be most upset about the whole thing.

I suppose its early days but I dont want to leave it longer than I should if they are stressed.
