'Egg card' ads

Dont cha just love those 'Egg card' adverts on the telly! :smitten: Everytime they come on I drop everything to watch them! I like to think my little Dil has a voice like the girlie guinea in the gym locker room! Its so clever how they do those ads. So realistic!

Just been onto Youtube to see if they were on there and they were. Hope they do more of them! Ive only seen 2. O0
 
They are cute but they are cruel. The guineas who star in them normally die a couple of days later, believe to be the stress of doing the ads. :( >:(

Oh gosh.... really! I really didnt realise. :embarassed: I thought it was all just computer imaging and just film real piggies heads. I didnt realise they die soon afterwards! I'm sure they wouldnt have done it though if the piggies were going to get stressed. :-\

You haven't offended or upset anyone. Many people think they are done by computer, I thought they were done by computer at first. However, someone told me real guineas are used in these adverts and that a few pass away a couple of days later. They told me to visit the person who owns these guineas website, she states that a couple have died a couple days later after filming. :( :)

It does state in the egg website that real guinea pigs weren't used, they were costumes and then heads were super-imposed so it looked real. If you hang on i'll look it up again and post it .....
 
It's having loads of pictures taken, travelling, being in different environments and such things as using fans to make their ears blow etc that apparently cause the deaths. :)
 
Hmmm.... Just been on that webite link quickly. All that music is a bit annoying!

I really dont know what to believe but I really thought those adverts were harmless. I couldnt see if it said any of the piggies died shortly afterward but I only looked quickly. Will look properly when I get the chance.

I'm so embarrassed. :embarassed: I really liked those ads!

Keep your thoughts coming in whether you like them or not.
 
Just found this on their website:

The ads were filmed using actors wearing specially constructed guinea pig body suits with custom-made clothes. The heads of real guinea pigs were filmed later to match with the movements of the actors and these were then combined with the bodies in post-production.

It's not that I disbelieve you CC, and I really don't want to cause any offence so don't think I'm having a dig or anything please, I just find it hard to believe that a big company like Egg would carry on making these adverts if that were the case. Ok, so it might be true - and if it is then prosecutions should be brought against the company for animal cruelty because that what it is, but just the same many slanderous (or libelous) comments are made agasint companies that people never really know are true or not but they damage reputations none the less. Maybe it is true, but maybe it's another rumour that's been like Chinese Whispers since it started? :-\ ( I don't work for Egg or anything btw before you wonder ;D)
 
;D You have caused no offence, it could be Chinese whispers, you know one died, which turned into two, then three and so on. Like I have said this is what someone else told me. I don't know if there is truth in it or not. :)

I love those adverts...or i used to....how do they get the pigs to do that? I just thought it was real piggies heads and a lot of clever graphics and computer imaging   :o :o

I wont look at that the same way again! :(

I love the music though...guinea pig way is better... :smitten:

I would love to see one of my piggies on TV :)
 
Oh, thanks CC. It's really hard sometimes being able to have an opinion but not wanting to upset anyone :-\ ;)

btw, erring on the side that there isn't much truth in the cruelty I do enjoy watching the adverts :) I feel better knowing that it's just people dressed up :)
 
I would expect that the owner would be a lot more angry if her guinea pigs had died as a result of the filming.

But there is nowhere on her website (that I can see) that mentions this was the case. She says that one was PTS since the adverts due to a tumour (so clearly not due to his experience), and that one died on boxing day - she does't specify how he died, but it could have been old age or anything.

Personally I think it's all just speculation that has got a bit out of hand ;)

Smileer... you're right, it is just real piggies heads, and the bodies were just graphics.

I always smile when I see these ads!

The one that died on boxing day was 8 months old so I doubt it was old age. :)
 
I too had read that they filmed the piggies and then "cut" their heads and put them on to "human" bodies with all the film trickery pockery that is now available.

Having had a quick look through her site, Eggstar-cavies only seems to have lost a couple of piggies after filming (and yes I would agree that any death is unacceptable if it was caused by something that occurred whilst making the ads), but one had a large tumour and I didn't get the impression from her site that she blames the ad makers for any deaths?
 
I love all the piggies on those ads, whenever i see that advert it makes me feel all happy and then have a cuddle with some of my piggies! ;D

I was just wondering if it is real piggies...how would they get them to move and stuff? with wires? :-\

I guess the piggies could be stressed by taking the pictures and everything..but some are used to it..like our pekingese jj is used to being shown so he doesnt even notice the loudest hairdryer...but kitty runs around in circles barking at it ::)

If they are used to it i doubt they care..

Then again piggies are naturally nervous... :-\

But imagine if one of you piggies was PTS and they were on tv..id be crying my eyes out everytime it came on! :(
 
I'm gonna email Egg about how the ad is made,I know they superimpose a piggys head etc onto the body
