Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice on eimeria parasite, I believe it's also called Coccidia.

I have a boar who was diagnosed with the above about a month or more ago now, he was put on antibiotics (yes it is how you treat it) and was hand fed/watered by my son until he started to eat himself, he finished his course of meds and was taken back for a check up, his feces wasn't tested on this occasion for whatever reason which is actually why I asked my son to take him, I was hoping they would check to make sure it had gone, anyway... I noticed that he still didn't seem as bright, hunching up, looking tired etc. and then his feaces started to change again, so yesterday my son took him back and he said he thought he still has eimeria, feces checked and yeap he still has it, just not as bad. It's really not a nice thing to have and can actually kill guinea pigs.

Anyway the point of my post is, my son read that it can be contagious and that your to clean with 10% ammonia solution, but no idea where you get it from?

I don't know if @Abi_nurse or Wiebke would know about this particular parasite.

Thanks in advance

PS - Sorry if it takes me a bit to respond to people's replies.

Just looked to see if I could get 10% ammonia solution in the UK, can't seem to find it. Then again my concentration isn't the best.

If anyone knows where I can get it from could you let me know please? Thanks.

:D @Kerrie74 You can find Ammonia solution on Amazon, but its either for household use or for aquatic pets. What are you supposed to clean with it? Yourself, your pets or your house?

Thanks for the reply @7squeakers. everything as far as I can work out lol. I went onto a vet practice page who I know have an exotics vet and asked them, they pointed me towards 33% ammonia on eBay and told me how to dilute down which was really nice of them :)
