My poor Eliza has a scab on her back :( It isn't a scab in which can be picked off but more in to the skin.

It isn't fungal or mites but more of a case of dry skin. I took Eliza to the vets not long ago as she had dandruff but it turns out she just has a problem with dry skin.

This scab looks like she has scratched away and made herself bleed and it is now irritating her. Is there any cream that I can apply to help sooth it and to stop her scratching at it?

hey clare i think Johnsons do a small animal ointment that you can use for things like this, i havent used it for a few years so can't remember what it says on the tub but maybe check that out and see if it's suitable?

Where is the scab Claire? Mine had mites, which they have now been treated for. They both had scabs at the back of their necks and dry flaky dandruffy skin. You can see mites with the naked eye, so I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Hi Claire, I'd drop Gorgeous Guineas an email with a pic if you can. She has all sorts of fab potions for piggies with poorly skin ;) x

It is on her back about halfway in between the middle of her back and her bum

Might be worth another trip to see the vet Claire, if it is mites a course of three ivermectin injections should sort it out. Does anyone else on here have any suggestions? My girls had the scabs between the shoulder blades, constant itch i suppose with mites. They were infected by a piggie i rescued.rolleyes

My mum had a look at her yesterday afternoon and she thinks it is more on her skin. We sat watching the pigs for a couple of hours in their run and Eliza didn't scratch once. If it were mites, wouldn't she be scratching all the time?

Ena once had fungal and Eliza's 'scab' looks nothing like that :{

Oh sweetie :( put up a pic of Eliza's scab you know whee have some awesome peeps on here that can put their fingers on things as in advice :)
But you know too that if you're at all in doubt go to the vets for a once over
