When I put the girls to bed last night, I noticed that Eliza had some sort of white spot on her eye. It looked pretty normal apart from the spot of white.
I have just gone and checked on them now and her eye has wept over night and looks a little sore in the bottom corner. The white spot is there.
I can't see anything in her eye. Could it be that something has poked her in the eye, an infection or could it be cataracts or something else? She appears to be acting normal. I'm worried about her :... I am going to make a vets appointment when they open.

A white spot/scuff mark on the eye often indicates a hay poke; the weepiness/soreness also points to this.

It doesn't sound too bad from what you are saying, but a few days of antibiotic eye drops (Fucithalmic or chloramphenicol-based drops) would be worthwhile.

This happened to one of mine once (although I must admit, I don't remember a white spot). She had Tiacil drops, which sorted it out.

Thanks :) I have an appointment at the vets at 2.20 this afternoon so I imagine they will give me the eye drops? The white spot looks a bit misty around the edges but her eye doesn't.

I'd be very surprised if you don't get drops (or the Fuciderm stuff, which is more of an ointment than a drop).

Good luck! :)

It does sound like a hay poke.

If the vet won't give drops (although I'd be surprised if he doesn't), you can always pick up some Optrex Infected Eyes or Golden Eye Chloramphenicol drops from the chemist. Just the same as what the vet would prescribe, only 1-2 drops twice a day. :)

Update

We are now back from the vets. She seems to think that Eliza has poked herself in the eye with some hay hence the white scuff. Poor Eliza has to have a drop of Fucithalmic twice a day for a week and go back next Tuesday just to make sure the eye doesn't get infected.

Eliza is currently sulking after the vet dropped an orange solution in to her eye.

Wish me luck for when I apply the eye drops as Eliza is the worse guinea pig ever when it comes to giving medication rolleyes

Hope she feels better soon Claire. Three of mine all come down with red eyes about three weeks ago, as you can imagine it would have cost a fortune at the vets, I went to the chemist and got a treatment for human conjunctivitis, that soon cleared it up, just used small amount in each eye that was inflammed.

Thank you :) Now I know what a hay poke looks like, at least I know how to treat it in the future with out having to go to the vets. I hope your babies are okay now xx
