Eliza's Healing Eye Cavity Is Bleeding

As some of you may know, Eliza had an eye removed at the beginning of September.

A stubborn infection that she caught after the eye was removed meant we had to leave the eye cavity open in order to flush and drain it daily.

The infection finally cleared up and fresh granulation tissue is slowly filling up her eye cavity.

Things have been fine up until yesterday where the new skin in the eye cavity is bleeding every now and then :(

On closer inspection, I think she must have caught it as I know granulation tissue is very fragile.

I keep the area where her eye was removed clean with hibiscrub, cotton wool and warm water as it produces some discharge but any ideas what I can do about the bleeding? It isn't like I can just put a plaster on it :(

Keep it disinfected and see a vet tomorrow if it is just spotting. I am very sorry about your continuing problems!

No, it isn't pouring out. It looks like when you have a scab and knock it off and has happened twice since yesterday morning.

I am wondering if she has knocked a piece of gunk off or washed herself too hard and caught herself with a nail or something.

I will keep an eye on her for the rest of the night and take her to the vets.

Not that it is but what would it mean if it was pouring out?
 
I was thinking if the blood was pouring I would take her to the vet as it needs a special bandage. If it is spotting I do not think there is anything they could do for her. It does sound like she may have knocked it. She cannot see on that side so it would be easy to do. Poor sweetheart. I can understand you are upset as I would be too.
 
Yes it is more spotting rather than pouring.

When it happened yesterday she cleaned it up herself and it went back to looking normal but I guess if she has caught it, it may well bleed for a while every time she disturbs it a bit like picking a scab?

I am going back to Manchester tomorrow so can always give my vet a ring and make an appointment.

I hope I haven't caught it whilst cleaning :(
 
No you would not have done it. She could have cleaned it herself a little roughly. It is a good idea to ask your vet for advice tomorrow just to put your mind at rest.
