Helen I am so sorry. How awful and what a terrible decision. Sometimes we have to trust the experts and be guided by them. You would never make the wrong choice for any of your piggies, absolutely agoinising though what you have had to do and knowing she would get no better still makes it no easier for you.. Sending you and Ross all our love and thoughts. Massive hugs and love

Sleep well Ellie
x

Sending much love and hugs. As I have already said on your Facebook status, you're a fantastic piggy mum and you did what was right for Ellie. Running a sanctuary like TEAS has made me really think about, at what point do you say goodbye, and I am a firm believer in whilst they are able to do normal piggy things, then I will do everything possible to overcome any obstacles. However, when they are unable to display normal guinea pig behaviour then it is time to allow them to pass over the Rainbow Bridge with dignity, knowing how much they are loved.

Sleep well Ellie! There will be another very bright star in the sky tonight x

I did consider that as we have used Bepanthen before but she has been pts. Someone very rightly pointed out that if she can't do all things piggy then it is time to say goodbye. I was just struggling with her being so well in herself but it would have been delaying the inevitable.

yes, better too early than too late. must have been a very painful decision to have to make. i can totally understand why you let her go at this stage. so very sorry for your loss. x

So sorry for your loss. It is a big and painful decision to make and we can only be guided by our own knowledge of how they are and vet advice.

Rest in Peace Ellie, now pain free and running free.

So sorry you have had to make the difficult decision Helen but rest assured that you have done right by Ellie so she doesn't suffer x

Thank you everyone. It was probably the hardest decision I have had to make as usually they are not themselves etc. Though I did have a similar situation with Star. Not quite sunk in yet and now need to think what is best for Barley. He is eating OK etc but we need to bond him soon I think. We have about 4 different options just need certain little cow bags to co-operate.

BIG HUGS

I am very sorry; it is so hard to make a decision like that when it is not yet clear cut, but you have made the same decision that I would have made to spare Ellie any unnecessary suffering. You are a very loving and caring mum and couldn't have done anymore. Sadly, sometimes there is only one last gift you can make...

RIP Ellie

So sorry Helen. Dreadful decision to have to make but undoubtedly the right one for your girl. Doesn't make it any easier though. Big hugs x

I've just been reading through this thread and it's all so sad. Thinking of you at this sad time. x

Thank you. You're all making me feel a lot better about things. Luckily Barley seems OK apart from rolling off his sofa in his sleep earlier ha ha. Been chattering at Maud through the grids though who gives as good as she gets. Think Tabs and Thumbles are first choice for bonding but we shall see.

Thank you, going to try him with laptime with a few of the girls over the next few nights and go from there. I caught Maud sitting gazing at him through the grids last night so maybe her and Robyn are a possibility after all.

Oh Helen I'm so sorry. Poor Ellie, its so hard but I'm sure u made the best decision for her.

RIP popcorn pain free little lady over the rainbow bridge. x

Chinny tickles to Barney &good luck with his dating/bonding sessions. Xx

I am so sorry Helen :( I had to make the same heartbreaking decision for my Petal last November, the vet could have operated but when she said if it were her piggy she wouldn't as she felt it was prolonging any suffering then I knew it was time. Sometimes not being selfish is the hardest decision, much as we don't want to let them go. Popcorn free sweet little one, hope you can share some nice fresh grass with my Petal & Daisy. Massive ((hugs)) for you x

Really so sorry to hear this about Ellie - I had been reading earlier and thinking it was going to be arthritis - my little Grover did the dragging thing but metacam sorted. Such a blow for you but I am sure your decision was right for Ellie. Good luck for Barley.

Thank you. Sadly the Metacam was having no effect and she wasn't in pain either. It was a horrible situation.

Barley had lap time with Tabs and Thumbles last night. Tabs chattered straight away which then set Barley off. Then we tried Maud and same thing happened. He seems happy at the mo and has been popcorning and eating OK so we will take it slowly.
