Our male guinea pig has lost a lot of weight (about 250 - 300g). We took him to the vet for x-rays, and have been told that he has an elongated root of an upper molar, which has resulted in an abcess at the back of his mouth.
The vet says she has only performed surgery for this once before and "she wishes she hadn't". Or rather, when the pain killers and sryinge-feeding stop working, we're going to have to say goodbye to our little friend.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there really nothing we can do?
We're in the north-west of England, but willing to travel if there's a chance we could save him.
Any help would be much appreciated.
