I have a very poorly guineapig. He went off his food and a locum l vet just put him on pain relief. He started loosing weight ,going off pellets and hay so phoned vet again ,got different locum vet.eventually found vet with GP knowledge who sedated because he suspected spurs on molars but found by x-ray no malocclusion or spurs only super long elongated roots.
We were going to take him to the dental specialist in Northampton but since we got home from vets last night he's even gone off soft veg(.ive been giving him critical care 3 hourly for 2 weeks already.)and he now also has a noticeable grunt. Despite feeding his weight has dropped to 720g . I don't know what to do now ,I think he's possibly too weak to cope with the journey and maybe he's telling us it's time to say goodbye. I'm just so sad

I’m so sorry your piggy is so poorly. I had to syringe feed a poorly piggy for 8 weeks once and it was very stressful and tiring. If your piggy is still losing weight then you need to syringe more at each feed. Sometimes I was getting in 90ml in a day and he still lost weight in the following morning weigh in.

I don’t have any experience of elongated roots. How old is your piggy? Are they on a good amount of pain medication? You could always call up The Cat and Rabbit Vet and ask their advice. But if you can get there then they are excellent vets.

Good luck you’re doing amazing. ❤️
